GoodVat vs Taxually for Cross-Border Sellers 2026

Taxually is an EU and UK VAT filing specialist. It’s a licensed UK VAT agent and a registered IOSS intermediary, and it handles registrations and returns across EU member states. It doesn’t calculate tax at checkout and doesn’t cover US sales tax.

GoodVat covers more ground: checkout calculation, invoicing, US sales tax and GST, as well as EU and UK filing. But it isn’t an IOSS intermediary, and for non-EU sellers that’s exactly the role Taxually fills. So for some sellers the right answer is both tools, not one or the other.

GoodVat: Files local returns, including UK VAT through MTD, as well as US sales tax and GST returns.

Taxually: Files UK VAT through MTD as a licensed UK agent, plus local VAT returns in EU member states where you hold a registration, for example because you have stock in an EU warehouse.

Verdict: Both file UK VAT. Taxually has deeper experience with local EU registrations. GoodVat also files outside Europe.

GoodVat: Applies IOSS rates at checkout across every channel and prepares and files the monthly return. GoodVat is not a registered IOSS intermediary. EU-established sellers don’t need one. Non-EU sellers must appoint one by law.

Taxually: A registered IOSS intermediary. Taxually takes on the legal obligation, handles your IOSS registration with a member state, aggregates sales from Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, eBay and Etsy, and files and remits every month. It doesn’t calculate tax at checkout.

Verdict: Taxually wins for non-EU sellers, because the intermediary role is a legal requirement GoodVat doesn’t cover. They also work well together: GoodVat charges the right IOSS rate at checkout, and Taxually acts as your intermediary.

GoodVat: Union and Non-Union OSS, with threshold tracking, registration, calculation and quarterly filing.

Taxually: OSS registration, data aggregation, and preparation and submission of the quarterly return.

Verdict: Tie on filing. GoodVat also charges the correct OSS rate at checkout, which Taxually doesn’t do.

GoodVat: Nexus tracking in every state, rooftop-level calculation, marketplace-facilitator awareness and state filing.

Taxually: Not covered.

Verdict: GoodVat wins by default.

GoodVat: Real-time calculation through the API or native integrations, with VAT number checks and reverse charge.

Taxually: Not a checkout engine. It imports transactions after the sale, so you still need Stripe Tax, Shopify Tax or another tool to charge the correct rate at checkout.

Verdict: GoodVat wins by default.

GoodVat:

  • E-commerce and marketplaces: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Amazon FBA, Etsy
  • Payments: Stripe, Square, Adyen, PayPal, Braintree, Amazon Pay, GoCardless, Mollie, Checkout.com, Razorpay
  • Accounting: Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, Zoho Books

Taxually:

  • Shopify, WooCommerce: transaction import for filing
  • Amazon, eBay, Etsy: marketplace data import
  • Stripe: data source
  • Xero, QuickBooks: accounting sync
  • Google Sheets: manual import

Verdict: GoodVat’s integrations work in real time at checkout. Taxually’s pull data in after the sale for filing. Taxually covers eBay, which GoodVat doesn’t list.

GoodVat: Flat monthly plans starting at $20/month. Registration and filing are quoted per jurisdiction.

Taxually: Subscription based on turnover and services. IOSS intermediary services start around €49–99/month for small sellers, and UK VAT and OSS filing may be add-ons.

Verdict: Not a like-for-like comparison. GoodVat’s price includes checkout calculation and invoicing, while Taxually’s includes the intermediary role. Price the combination you actually need.

GoodVat: A sales-led onboarding call, after which GoodVat configures the account with you.

Taxually: Self-serve account setup, then platform connections and the IOSS or VAT registration, which takes a few days to confirm.

Verdict: Similar effort. Both involve registrations, which take a few days whichever tool you choose.

GoodVat: A per-calculation audit log, from the rate applied at checkout through to the filed return.

Taxually: Filed returns, payment confirmations and 10-year IOSS record retention, held by the agent that filed them.

Verdict: Both are audit-ready. GoodVat’s trail starts at the moment of sale. Taxually’s starts at filing.

GoodVat: Registration, calculation, invoicing and filing in 190 countries and 14,000+ jurisdictions, plus address and geocoding APIs. E-invoicing is on the roadmap.

Taxually: EU and UK VAT compliance end to end, including IOSS intermediary services, OSS, MTD and local EU registrations. Stripe recommends it as its IOSS filing partner.

Verdict: GoodVat is broader. Taxually is deeper within EU VAT, especially where regulatory roles are involved.

GoodVat: Onboarding call, then human tax experts over email, chat and Slack.

Taxually: EU VAT specialists who carry the regulatory responsibility themselves as your agent and intermediary.

Verdict: Both give you people who know tax. Taxually’s team is especially strong on EU VAT questions that come up in practice.

Beyond Sellers: White-Label Tax for Platforms

Section titled “Beyond Sellers: White-Label Tax for Platforms”

GoodVat also sells its engine as a white-label API:

  • Online marketplaces: marketplace facilitator and deemed-supplier compliance, plus tax as a feature for every seller.
  • Payment processors: PSPs such as Adyen, along with acquirers and PayFacs, can launch a branded tax product with calculation, invoicing and filing.
  • Merchant of Record platforms: MoRs expanding into new countries get calculation, registration and filing infrastructure.

Taxually works with platforms as a filing partner, most visibly Stripe. It isn’t a white-label calculation engine that a platform can put in its own checkout.

Choose GoodVat if:

  • You need checkout calculation, invoicing and filing from one provider
  • You sell to US customers as well as EU and UK customers
  • You’re EU-established, so you don’t need an IOSS intermediary
  • You’re a marketplace, PSP or MoR that needs white-label tax

Choose Taxually if:

  • You’re a non-EU seller and need an IOSS intermediary
  • Your obligations are entirely EU and UK VAT, and checkout calculation is already handled
  • You hold stock in EU warehouses and need several local EU registrations handled by a specialist

Use both if:

  • You’re a UK or other non-EU seller shipping to EU consumers. GoodVat calculates, invoices and prepares returns, and Taxually acts as your IOSS intermediary
