Monitoring without the busywork

Doing it by hand

  • A spreadsheet of state thresholds that someone updates when they remember
  • Marketplace and own-store sales counted separately, so totals are wrong
  • You find out you had nexus when a state sends a letter

With GoodVat

  • Every sale from every channel counted against every threshold automatically
  • Alerts as you approach a threshold, with time to register first
  • A clear list of where you are registered, close, or safe

What it does

Every threshold that applies to you, in one place

Thresholds differ by state and country, by what they count and by the period they measure. GoodVat applies each rule exactly as written.

  • US economic nexus

Sales and transaction counts tracked against each state’s threshold, from $100,000 in most states to $500,000 in California, New York and Texas.

  • VAT and GST thresholds

    The UK’s £90,000, the EU’s €10,000 One-Stop Shop limit, Australia’s A$75,000, New Zealand’s NZ$60,000 and the rest.

  • Marketplace-aware totals

Amazon, Etsy and eBay sales count towards your threshold where the state says they do, without being taxed twice.

  • Early alerts

Notified as you approach a threshold, with an estimate of when you will cross it at your current sales.

  • Exposure from past sales

Import your sales history to see where you already had nexus, and since when.

  • Registration when you need it

Hand the registration to our accountant network as soon as a threshold gets close.

Frequently asked questions

What is economic nexus?

Economic nexus is the obligation to collect a US state’s sales tax once your sales into that state pass its threshold, even if you have no physical presence there. Most states set it at $100,000 of sales a year; California, New York and Texas use $500,000. Once you cross it, you must register and start collecting.

Which sales count towards a threshold?

It depends on the state or country. Some US states count all sales, some only taxable sales, and some include marketplace sales even though the marketplace collects the tax. GoodVat applies each jurisdiction’s rule to your combined sales from every channel.

How early will GoodVat warn me?

GoodVat alerts you as your sales approach a threshold and estimates when you will cross it at your current pace, so you have time to register before you are required to collect.

Can GoodVat tell me if I already owe back tax?

Yes. Import your past sales and GoodVat shows every state and country where you crossed a threshold and when. Our accountant network can then register you and clean up past periods, including through voluntary disclosure where it reduces penalties.

Do I need to register before I can use monitoring?

No. Monitoring works from your sales data alone. You only register where GoodVat shows you have to.
